A fire that destroyed a Redmond medical office is being investigated as suspicious as of the Reporter’s deadline Thursday morning.

The Redmond Police and Fire Departments responded to the fire around 5:15 a.m. and doused the blaze that caused extensive damage to the Children’s Eye Doctors, 17130 Avondale Way N.E.

The cause is unknown, but it is being investigated as a suspicious fire, according to Jim Bove, public-information officer for the Redmond Police Department. There were no injuries from the blaze.

Most of the damage involved the Children’s Eye Doctors practice of Thomas Lenart while the other four offices in Bear Creek Professional Building mainly suffered smoke damage, Bove said.

Henny, an arson-investigation K-9 from the Seattle Fire Department, was brought to the scene. The scene was taped off and investigators spent most of the day checking out the scene.

The fire was controlled quickly, but it took several hours for the scene to be deemed safe for investigators to enter the structure, Bove said.

He added that the damage could have been a lot worse if firefighters did not respond so quickly.

“It was a few minutes away from major disaster to all of the offices,” Bove said. “They got to it just in time.”

All offices in the building were closed Wednesday, including The Family Eye Doctors; Woodlawn Optical of Redmond; David Atherton Pediatric Dentistry; and Stanley Gile Orthodontics.
