Five Redmond High School students are Presidential Scholar candidates

Five students from Redmond High School have been selected as candidates for the United States Presidential Scholars Program. These students are Rachel Ballantyne, Erika John, Sam Keller, Rebecca Li and Kelly Ren.

Fifty seven students from around the state have been selected as candidates and 3,173 students have been selected nationwide. These students will now have to complete applications in order to move on to become Presidential Scholars.

The U.S. Presidential Scholars Program was established in 1964 by executive order of the President, to recognize and honor some of our nation’s most distinguished graduating high school seniors. In 1979, the program was extended to recognize students who demonstrate exceptional talent in the visual, creative and performing arts. Each year, up to 141 students are named as Presidential Scholars, one of the nation’s highest honors for high school students.
