Joan Campbell, former Friends of Youth (FOY) president and chief executive officer, died on Nov. 5 from cancer. She was 67.

Campbell lived in Issaquah and began her 22-year FOY career at the organization’s office on Front Street in Issaquah in 1989. She retired in 2011.

FOY, which has developed, provided and advocated for services for children, youth and their families for 63 years, is now based in Kirkland and serves the Eastside.

“Joan was kind, wise and warm and dedicated her life to children and youth,” said Terry Pottmeyer, current FOY president and CEO. “She had a particular soft spot for very young parents, and worked hard to support our Healthy Start program, a collaboration of agencies dedicated to serving young families. She was well respected and well loved, and we will miss her. Our world is a better place because of Joan.”

In Campbell’s honor, FOY will take a moment during its breakfast event next Wednesday to remember her life and legacy.

She is survived by her husband, Tim Williams.
