The National Merit Scholarship Corporation announced today that four Lake Washington School District students, including three from Redmond High School (RHS), will receive National Merit Corporate-Sponsored Scholarships financed by three of the 200 companies, foundations and other business organizations that sponsor these scholarships. These four students are among the 1,000 distinguished high school seniors nationwide to win these scholarships:

• Briana Gahler, Redmond High School – National Merit Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) Scholarship

• Sam Keller, Redmond High School – National Merit Boeing Scholarship

• Kathryn Norton, Redmond High School – National Merit Synopsys, Inc. Scholarship

• Jeremy Housekeeper, Lake Washington High School – National Merit Boeing Scholarship

Scholars were selected from students who advanced to the finalist level in the National Merit Scholarship Competition and met the criteria of their scholarship sponsors. Corporate sponsors provide National Merit Scholarships for finalists who are children of their employees, residents of the communities the company serves, or who plan to pursue college majors or careers the grantor wishes to encourage.

Most of these awards are renewable for up to four years of college undergraduate study and provide annual stipends that range from $500 to $10,000 per year. Some provide a single payment between $2,500 and $5,000. Recipients can use their awards at any regionally accredited U.S. college or university of their choice.
