Keenan Ganz, a sophomore at Redmond High School, spent a week working as a page for the Washington State Senate at the Capitol in Olympia. Ganz was one of 16 students who served as Senate pages during the fifth week of the 2016 legislative session.

He was sponsored by 45th Legislative District Sen. Andy Hill.

The Senate Page Program is an opportunity for Washington students to spend a week working in the Legislature. Students are responsible for transporting documents between offices, as well as delivering messages and mail. Pages spend time in the Senate chamber and attend page school to learn about parliamentary procedure and the legislative process. Students also draft their own bills and engage in a mock session.

“If you look at the program as a way to get something on your resume that is not the purpose of the program. This is about seeing what the government does, being able to clarify your position as a citizen, and to find out what a senator actually does when you vote for them,” said Ganz about his experience in the Senate Page Program.

Ganz, 15, enjoys playing tennis, baseball, participating in debate club and being involved in leadership roles for his school’s student government.
