Hannah Gonzalez, a fifth grader at John James Audubon Elementary School in Redmond, is one of five students vying for the People’s Choice Award in the My Dream School competition, which is sponsored by the League of Education Voters and Seattle’s Child.

People’s Choice voting has opened and will continue online at http://www.educationvoters.org/dream through Feb. 20 at 9 p.m. The contestant with the most online votes will receive a Target gift card.

Contestants were judged on creativity, message and whether they followed the contest rules, and were selected in three categories: video, PowerPoint, and essay/drawing.

Entries included suggestions such as fairies for teachers, hotdogs by teleportation, gum balls every day (and not the sugar free ones).

In addition to their originality, all of the entries had some common themes. Contestants talked about swimming pools, roller coasters and five star lunch menus. They also emphasized improved technology in the classroom, more time for creativity, friendship and great teachers.

Students from kindergarten to 12th grade entered the competition.
