Holi, the Indian festival of color, will take place from noon to 4 p.m. this Saturday at Redmond’s Downtown Park, 16106 Redmond Way.

Music, food and scheduled color throws will “color” participants during the free event. Colors can be purchased at the event site. To register, visit: http://tinyurl.com/hw7v23p. All colors are vegetable-based, non-toxic, and approved by the FDA.

The ancient festival of Holi “frees all of inhibitions so they can relate others with pure joy. It brings people together and creates a community of happy people,” according to the event site.

“I encourage everyone to take part in this global Festival of Color. This event energizes the Redmond community to join together as one in celebration of the end of winter and the beginning of spring,” said Mayor John Marchione.

Elected officials will announce “coloring” countdowns, starting with Mayor Marchione at 1 p.m.

“Since the hugely successful launch in 2013, we have made this festival a signature Redmond event, eagerly anticipated by the community. It is a great family event, suitable for all,” said Vedic Cultural Center (VCC) volunteer Latha Sambamurti.

The Festival of Color is part of the Redmond Arts and Culture Commission’s 2016 season and is produced by VCC volunteers.
