King County Executive Dow Constantine is asking for people’s thoughts about climate change and how local government can best confront this issue that has such far-reaching impacts.

“With climate change we expect to see more severe winters, hotter and drier summers, rising sea levels, and new challenges for our working farms and forests,” Executive Constantine said. “Through this online town hall, we want to hear how climate change might impact you and your family, and your priorities for action.”

King County has launched a new digital engagement tool called MindMixer, where residents can answer a few short questions, submit ideas and converse with King County climate employees and each other. The MindMixer forum will be available through April 10, and can be found at http://kingcountywa.mindmixer.com/.

The outreach is part of King County’s update of the Strategic Climate Action Plan, which is its blueprint for reducing carbon pollution and preparing the region for a changing climate. The plan covers diverse strategies on transit, recycling, energy, green building, renewable energy and preparing for local climate impacts, such as increasing flood risks and extreme weather.

The findings from the online forum and other outreach will help King County shape its climate action priorities and how the county works with the community.
