‘Lights, Camera, Auction:’ Chamber Gala and Auction attracts more than 150 people

Participants took home a wide array of eye-popping items, including standees of their favorite Hollywood stars, at Saturday’s Hollywood-themed Greater Redmond Chamber of Commerce 64th Annual Gala and Auction, “Lights, Camera, Auction.”

The Redmond Marriott Town Center was transformed into a red-carpet extravaganza as more than 150 participants started the evening walking down the red carpet, before having a chance to make their bids at the silent auction. The evening continued with a formal dinner and and a live auction, hosted by auctioneer Dennis Bateman of Bellevue-based Northwest Benefit Auctions. A myriad of items, including jewelry, local dining and a hot air balloon ride, were auctioned off as part of the chamber’s top fundraiser.

The evening ended with Bateman auctioning off life-size cardboard cutouts of Hollywood stars, such as Captain Jack Sparrow (played by Johnny Depp in the “Pirates of the Caribbean” movie series), John Wayne and Michael Jackson.

“This one is sure to be a collector’s item,” Bateman said of the Jackson cutout.

The proceeds from the event “will help pay for a new (GRCC) Web site, and the balance will enable the Chamber to work on the behalf and behest of business,” according to Chris Hoffman, GRCC CEO and President. “We are working hard to help businesses through the financial crisis and to promote business to help create a stronger economic base for our members.”
