The 937 books the organization has collected this year is part of Make a Difference Day, which focuses on volunteers coming together to improve the lives of others.

Make a Difference Day has been around for 24 years, sponsored by USA Today and is the largest national day of community service. National Assistance League — as well as the local Eastside chapter — started participating in 2012.

In the first year, the National Assistance League called upon their 120 chapters to collect children’s books. They collected 113,001 books and were one of 10 honorees and received a prize from USA Today.

A portion of the books collected by Assistance League of the Eastside will be given at a holiday party held for current and past LifeWire families.
