Mark your calendars for Redmond’s annual Derby Days celebration

Attendees should expect two days of action-packed fun from July 8-9.

What began as a summer tradition at the end of the Great Depression continues this year as the city of Redmond prepares for the annual Derby Days celebration. Through July 8-9 the Redmond City Hall Campus, located at 15670 Northeast 85th Street, will host events such as live music, parades, carnival rides, local food, and a beer and wine garden, among others.

Unlike previous Derby Day celebrations, this year will incorporate a dedicated craft market with Urban Craft Uprising, Seattle’s largest indie-craft show. The Redmond Arts Festival will make an appearance at Derby Days and will feature about 60 artist booths, a community art project and live entertainment at the Redmond Town Center.

What to expect on July 8

On the first day of celebrations, Urban Craft Uprising Craft Marketplace will be stationed at Redmond City Hall Campus from 4-9 p.m. At 4:00 p.m. there will be food vendors, a beer and wine garden, performances, and carnival rides that will carry into the night.

The Derby Dash 5k will take place at 5:45 p.m., with Derby Days Friday Night Racing beginning at 6:00 p.m. A silent disco will be held from 6-10 p.m.

Derby Days attendees should expect three live performances on the evening of July 8. A battle of the bands, or the OFH Rockathon Finals, will begin at 4:45 p.m., and will be followed by La Fonda, a Seattle based sister duo group. At 7:45 p.m. En Canto will perform on the main stage, with 45th Street Brass closing the night with a performance at 9:00 p.m.

A full day of fun to follow

The celebrations for July 9 will kick off early, with a pancake breakfast taking place from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Fire Station 11, located at 8450 161st Avenue Northeast. The Kids Bike Parade will start at 10 a.m., which is when food vendors and community organization booths will be available for the public to explore.

The grand parade will begin at 11:00 a.m., which is when the beer and wine garden will be open to the public. Kids stage and main stage performances will start at noon, after the grand parade. Kids stage performances include Eli Rosenblatt; Mikey the Rad Scientist; Dani & the Bee; and The Harmonica Pocket.

Main stage performers for July 9 are Erin Rae & the Heartbeets; Buena Vibra; Rangeela Dance; Bread & Butter; Boka Kouyate & the Djeliyah Band; R E P O S A D O; and a verge aero drone show.

The Derby Days 2022 Virtual Trail ride will take place until July 10, and allows individuals to ride the 24.5 mile bicycle route around Lake Sammamish to honor the original Derby Days bicycle route.
