On March 17, the Washington Student Math Association (WSMA) will host an expo event at the Redmond Regional Library, located at 15990 N.E. 85th St., to teach kids of all ages different aspects of math.

The event will be from 1:30-4:30 p.m. and will feature puzzles and games as well as a competition with prizes.

WSMA is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting math-related activities, especially concerning math enrichment, throughout the state. The organization is led and run by students in the Puget Sound area and has a small board of senior directors as advisors.

In its third year of operation and second generation of leadership, WSMA is looking to expand its reach to the entire state and is already doing so through online methods including the TestHub, which is part of a centralization process of math competitions throughout the state. Through this service, students all across Washington can access past competition tests and practice tests to prepare for future competitions of various levels and grades, ranging from elementary to high school.

In 2011, WSMA hosted its first-ever Math Bowl, an inter-school competition for high school and middle school students. Students throughout the Puget Sound region attended.

The WSMA also holds tutoring expos for math enrichment, among other events. As the organization expands locally, it is aiming to spread its services more broadly outside the current regions.
