Medical Teams International (MTI) in Redmond is delivering hygiene supplies today to families, rescue workers and volunteers in Oso.

Last weekend’s mudslide devastated the small community, destroying homes and lives. At the request of Snohomish County Emergency Response, more than 300 kits of donated supplies such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo and soap were assembled by MTI staff and volunteers for distribution to the Oso community and those assisting with rescue efforts.

“These kits will assist any Oso families still living in shelters as well as responders and volunteers who have been working non-stop as part of the ongoing rescue effort,” said Joe DiCarlo, MTI’s vice president of programs. “We continue to pray for our neighbors affected by this tragic disaster.”

While Medical Teams International is not accepting cash donations for this effort, the organization will accept donations of the following new and unused items:

  • Combs and/or brushes
  • Bars of soap (large or hotel-size)
  • Washcloths
  • Adult-sized toothbrushes
  • Child-sized toothbrushes
  • Toothpaste (large tube or travel-size)

Donations can be dropped off or shipped to the Redmond MTI distribution center between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, at 9680 153rd Ave. N.E., Redmond, WA 98052.

Any donations received in excess of need will be distributed to MTI’s existing Puget Sound and Portland area social service agency partners and/or used to support the organization’s international health programs. For more information, visit www.medicalteams.org or call (425) 284-1952.
