Meeting to discuss future of four key city facilities

The City of Redmond will hold the first community meeting to discuss the future of four recreational facilities – Old Redmond Schoolhouse Community Center, Old Fire House Teen Center, Redmond Senior Center and Hartman Pool — from 6:30-8 p.m. Monday, June 29 at Redmond City Hall, 15670 NE 85th St. The meeting will also gather input on the needs of the city’s indoor recreation programs.

The information gathered at this meeting will be used by a consultant team hired to perform building and program assessments. These assessments will lead to a set of options for maintaining, renovating or replacing each of the existing facilities so they meet current and future demand for indoor recreation space.

“Our parks and recreation system in Redmond is one we are very proud of,” stated Craig Larsen, parks and recreation director. “However, many of our facilities are showing their age and need to be evaluated to ensure we can meet future demand. An example of this is the Old Redmond Schoolhouse Community Center, a 77-year-old building designed as an elementary school, now used for a variety of recreation and athletic activities.”
