A 36-year-old mother was charged with second-degree murder of her 16-month-old son on Wednesday, according to court documents supplied by the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.

King County Sheriff deputies arrested Tami Annett Christianson at her parents’ home near Redmond last Saturday afternoon for investigation of the murder of her son. She is being held in King County Jail in Seattle on $1 million bail.

She was booked into King County Jail after deputies responded to the home on an aid call at about 3:30 p.m. in the 1700 block of 264th Avenue Northeast in unincorporated King County.

“The male caller reported to King County Sheriff 911 communications that his 16-month-old son was not breathing and that others at the house were attempting CPR,” said Sgt. Jason Houck in a press release, which added that there was an AED request. “Deputies and medics arrived a short time later and attempted to revive the infant, but were unsuccessful.”

During their initial investigation, deputies uncovered evidence that the boy’s mother had possibly caused the fatal injuries. Court documents state that an autopsy revealed that facial petechia consistent with asphixial mechanism was discovered.

According to court documents, Christianson has a history of mental illness and prescription drug abuse, and her fiance and father to the boy said that Christianson once jumped out of his car while he was driving at 70 mph and was badly injured. The documents added that Christianson once told her fiance that she wanted to kill their son.

Documents state that Spokane residents Christianson, her fiance and their son were staying near Redmond because the defendant’s mother and fiance were concerned that Christianson couldn’t properly care for the boy. When Christianson’s mother and father left for Ellensburg last Saturday morning, the mother said everything seemed “fine.”

At about 3 p.m. last Saturday, according to documents, the fiance put his son down for a nap in a playpen in a bedroom. After he exited the room, Christianson entered and came out a few minutes later. Noticing her looking dazed and having what appeared to be a brownish substance on her leg, the fiance asked what was wrong. Christianson replied, “It’s done,” documents state. The fiance went into the bedroom and found the boy unresponsive and pale and made a panicked 911 call, documents state.

Christianson will be arraigned June 22 at the King County courthouse in Seattle.
