This year’s Northwest Yoga Conference will feature more than 30 local and international yoga instructors, including Lisa Black, founder of Shakti Vinyasa Yoga, which has studios in Redmond, Bellevue and Seattle.
The conference will be at the Lynnwood Convention Center in Lynnwood and feature workshops for all ages and abilities, a yoga marketplace with a variety of vendors and more.
More than 600 yoga students and instructors are expected to attend the conference, now in its second year.
Black will be presenting two workshops, one on Saturday and one on Sunday. Her Saturday workshop will be “SHAKTI Vinyasa Yoga: Balancing Stability and Fluidity” and runs from 3:30-5:30 p.m. Her Sunday workshop is “Hands of an Angel: The Art of Assisting Vinyasa Yoga” and will run from 12:15-2:15 p.m. Recognized as a senior baptiste yoga instructor, Black was featured in the “Yoga Journal” magazine as one of the most “talented upcoming yoga teachers in the country.” Her yoga classes are designed to offer essential alignment cues and inspiration while keeping students moving fluidly and breathing deeply.
Eastside-based instructors Sandra Storwick and Kirsten Elfendahl are also scheduled to present at the conference.
“With the help of an amazing team of volunteers, we are able to expand this year to a three-day event that includes a children’s yoga program, a free yoga and meditation program for the military, all-day intensive workshops, yoga trance dance, kirtan and a summit for studio owners,” said conference director Melissa Hagedorn. “My vision is to create a warm and welcoming space for all to explore their inner being while having a fun, unique and immersive yoga experience.”
The conference is Hagedorn’s vehicle to introduce the benefits of yoga to those who might not otherwise venture into a yoga studio.
In addition to the scheduled workshops and yoga marketplace, there will be a healing arts area, a sanctuary for meditation and community yoga classes — all of which are free and open to the public.
Attendees may choose from three-day, two-day, one-day or single workshop passes.
