PCC Natural Markets recently donated 1,000 children’s books to the Redmond/Sammamish Boys and Girls Club.

PCC and Reading Tree have partnered to aid literacy, by supplying free children’s books to kids through local non-profits like the Boys and Girls Club. The program invites the community to get involved by donating books they no longer need. Donors can find a book collection bin located conveniently outside the Redmond PCC at 11435 Avondale Road N.E.

Bring your reusable books to the Reading Tree book bins and donate them to help this cause. Recycle the knowledge in books that you have stored in your garage or bookcases. All types of books are welcome: new, used, hardback and softback.

Literacy Statistics:

• Sixty-one percent of low-income families have no children’s books in the home.

• There is one age-appropriate book for every 300 children in low income neighborhoods.

• More than 80 percent of preschool and after-school programs serving children from low-income families have no age-appropriate books for their children.

The Impact:

In 2008 Reading Tree delivered over 1,000,000 quality children’s books into the hands of book-starved children.
