PCC serves up flavorful food to Tent City residents

PCC Natural Markets shared its bounty with more than 50 residents of Tent City 4 on July 19. Volunteers, including Redmond store director Celeste Coxen, served a meal of Cuban black bean tortas, fresh-ground buffalo meatloaf, organic green salad, fresh blueberry crisp and more, in the basement of St. Jude Catholic Church on Education Hill.

“Working at events like this is an eye opener, because we work in a place bursting with great food. To have people who are hungry — that’s really sad,” said Coxen. “And if we can help alleviate that, that’s really great.”

Also, this summer, PCC Natural Markets are hosting “Grillin’ and Chillin'” events to help raise money for local non-profit organizations. From 4-8 p.m. Fridays and from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays, a full meal, featuring a freshly grilled entree, sides and beverage costs $7 for adults and $3 for children 12 and younger. For every “Grillin’ and Chillin'” meal purchased, PCC Natural Markets will donate $3 to a worthy cause.

During the month of June, the designated community organization was Hopelink’s Redmond Food Bank. Throughout July, donations will go to Little Bit Therapeutic Riding Center and in August, the “Grillin’ and Chillin'” events will benefit Friends of Youth.

Redmond’s PCC Natural Market is located at 11435 Avondale Rd. NE. For more information, call (425) 285-1400 or visit www.pccnaturalmarkets.com.
