Plenty of free, family fun at winter festival

Entertaining the family can be expensive, especially close to the holidays and in the midst of an economic downtown.

Entertaining the family can be expensive, especially close to the holidays and in the midst of an economic downtown.

The free RedmondLights Winter Festival, happening in and around Redmond City Hall and Redmond Town Center from 4-8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 7, is a good opportunity for cost-conscious families and individuals to get into the holiday spirit. The festival offers dazzling light displays, diverse musical entertainment, arts, crafts and more.

A few new features have been added since the schedule for RedmondLights 2008 was originally announced.

• Weather permitting, chalk artist Brian Major will create chalk snowflakes all around the Redmond City Hall campus.

• Horse-drawn carriage rides will be available for groups of four, for a $20 donation to RYPAC (Redmond Youth Partnership Advisory Committee), between 3:30-5:30 p.m. on Dec. 7. The rides will leave from the circular driveway in front of City Hall.

• Live reindeer will greet walkers as they enter Redmond Town Center off the Sammamish River Trail.

• The following restaurants, grocers and merchants will provide free tastes of food and beverages at Redmond City Hall and/or Redmond Town Center: PCC Natural Market, Las Margaritas, Meritage, Thai Ginger, Mehfil Fine Indian Cuisine, Pizza Schmizza, Todai, Desert Fire, Red Sky/Fairwinds, Panera Bread, Qdoba Mexican Grill, REI, Pallino, Larry’s Market, Sweet Factory, Flying Saucer Pizza, Whole Foods Market and Ruby’s Diner.
