Poet laureate to hold workshop for teens on Wednesday

Redmond poet laureate Jeannine Hall Gailey will host a poetry workshop for teens at 6:30 p.m. on July 24 at the Old Redmond Schoolhouse Community Center at 16600 N.E. 80th St. downtown.

Redmond poet laureate Jeannine Hall Gailey will host a poetry workshop for teens at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the Old Redmond Schoolhouse Community Center at 16600 N.E. 80th St. downtown.

The event will be facilitated by the Hugo House’s Karen Finneyfrock, author of the young adult novel “The Sweet Revenge of Celia Door.”

Using prose from Daniel Handler’s book “Why We Broke Up” and poetry from Shanny Jean Maney’s “I Love Science” for inspiration, they will write list poems, poem tweets and poems about the universe or other geeky subjects. There will be time for both writing and sharing. No experience in poetry writing necessary.

Partners for this workshop include the Richard Hugo House and Washington State Arts Commission.
