Redmond police arrested a 24-year-old Redmond man for investigation of DUI, hit and run and reckless driving after he drove off the road and crashed his car into a wooden light post in the Grass Lawn neighborhood.

Last Friday at around noon, Redmond police got a call regarding a hit and run accident near Willows Road on 149th Way NE, the roadway between the Shadowbrook and Trailwood Apartment complexes, according to Jim Bove, spokesperson for the Redmond Police Department (RPD).

Witnesses saw a 1993 Geo Prizm driving southbound on the road, which curved to the left. But instead of curving to the left, the car went “straight off the roadway, collided through a wooden light post and rolled over at least two times,” Bove said.

The vehicle was “mangled,” Bove said, but the driver and the passenger both got out of the car and began walking towards a nearby trail. Responding officers eventually found the driver coming back from the trail towards his car.

The driver was transported to Evergreen Hospital Medical Center in Kirkland for injuries to his hand and arm. He was treated and released from the hospital. He was then arrested for DUI, hit and run and reckless driving and transported to King County Jail, Bove confirmed.

Bove added that the passenger was never found and the driver told police that he didn’t know the man, he was only giving him a ride.
