An alert neighbor called 911 after witnessing male and female teens leaving an apartment nearby carrying a laptop and a jar of coins on Thursday evening.

Redmond police officers received the call at 6:20 p.m., arrived quickly and first detained and arrested the 14-year-old female suspect after a short pursuit. According to a police release, the department has had several interactions with her. Shortly thereafter, officers located and arrested the 16-year-old male suspect. The incident occurred at an apartment complex in the 9800 block of Avondale Road.

“They know the residents who do live there and they were not home at the time; the neighbors thought the two were suspicious,” the release reads. “After asking them what was going on, both suspects fled the area on foot. The caller and others in the area gave excellent descriptions of the suspects. There were no weapons reported.”

Police discovered that the apartment door had been forced open and the residents, who returned home shortly after the break-in, reported other items stolen, as well.

The investigation is ongoing.
