Prepare to take the plunge into Lake Sammamish Jan. 1

The Redmond Police Department (RPD) will be hosting its fifth annual Polar Plunge on Saturday, Jan. 1 at Idylwood Beach Park, 3650 West Lake Sammamish Parkway NE.

The Redmond Police Department (RPD) will be hosting its annual Polar Plunge on Saturday, Jan. 1 at Idylwood Beach Park, 3650 West Lake Sammamish Parkway NE.

The pre-plunge festivities kick off at 11 a.m. with the actual plunge taking place at noon.

The Polar Plunge is a fund raising effort organized by law enforcement agencies, including RPD, throughout the state benefiting Special Olympics Washington. Police and community members collect pledges and plunge into the frigid waters of Lake Sammamish.

Each individual must raise a minimum of $50 to participate. Each individual who raises the minimum $50.00 donation will receive an official Polar Plunge t-shirt, lunch and entry to the post-event party. Individuals and teams may register online and create a fundraising at www.sowa.org.
