Redmond church to plant tree in honor of 98-year-old resident

In celebration of Waneta Shawhan’s 98th birthday, RedWood Family Church has organized a tree planting party at Perrigo Community Park, 9011 196th Ave. NE. The party begins at 9 a.m. Saturday, June 14 and lasts until 4 p.m.

In celebration of Waneta Shawhan’s 98th birthday, RedWood Family Church has organized a tree planting party at Perrigo Community Park, 9011 196th Ave. NE. The party begins at 9 a.m. Saturday, June 14 and lasts until 4 p.m.

Workers are asked to bring a shovel, gloves, waterproof boots and bottled water to drink. Lunch will be provided.

The group will plant 100 trees including redwoods, cedars, ash, spruce, birch, crab-apples and alders.

Waneta was born June 15, 1910. She was present at the bombing of Pearl Harbor in 1941.
