The first two episodes of “Re-Energized by Design,” an online web series from Puget Sound Energy (PSE), have aired online featuring the White family from Redmond.
The Whites — with three generations under one roof — are competing head-to-head with five other families to achieve the home makeover that best combines great design and energy efficiency.
The premier episode, “Meet the Contestants,” introduced the six families who will battle it out for the $5,000 grand prize.
In the second episode, contestants battled it out to perform the best bathroom makeover. One family’s bathroom goes from “really ugly” to “wow!” while another family’s bathroom gets a lukewarm reception from a judge, who wonders what the family did with all their time and money.

The Whites and the rest of the contestants had one week to makeover their bathroom (before shown at left) using just $500 and energy-efficient lighting from GE. For this task, the Redmond family replaced the flooring with new tile, repurposed a mirror from another room as a new bathroom mirror, updated the walls a “surfer” turquoise and repainted the baseboard, purchased accessories to add to the room including vases, soap dish and a shower curtain, purchased a new fan and installed it with a timer and efficient CFL bulb, installed a new WaterSense shower head, dual flush toilet and faucet and replaced light fixtures and installed new CFL bulbs. They spent a total of $495.17.
In this second episode, one family gets eliminated from the competition.

Each Wednesday through April 24, PSE will release the next episode of “Re-Energized by Design” at www.pse.com/reenergizedbydesign. Viewers will follow the contestants’ race to combine design choices and energy-efficient ideas to transform each room into a functional and efficient space on a tight budget. To advance, contestants must impress celebrity judges—radio personality Marty Reimer, 425 and South Sound Magazine Editor Lisa Patterson and local society and event photographer Duell Fisher.
