The National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) announced Wednesday that two Lake Washington School District students, including one from Redmond High School, will receive National Merit Corporate-Sponsored Scholarships financed by one of the 200 companies, foundations and other business organizations that sponsor these scholarships.
Jeffrey McNerney from Redmond High School and Anna Veltkamp (below) from Juanita High School in Kirkland will each receive a National Merit Boeing Scholarship. These two students are among the 1,000 distinguished high school seniors nationwide to win these scholarships.
Scholars were selected from students who advanced to the Finalist level in the National Merit Scholarship Competition and met the criteria of their scholarship sponsors. The Boeing Company supports Merit Scholarship awards annually for children of employees. The Merit Scholarship awards are a part of the Boeing Company’s comprehensive aid to education program.
Most of these awards are renewable for up to four years of college undergraduate study and provide annual stipends that range from $500 to $10,000 per year. Some provide a single payment between $2,500 and $5,000. Recipients can use their awards at any regionally accredited U.S. college or university of their choice.
