The Rotary Club of Redmond presented scholarships to three Redmond High School (RHS) seniors at their meeting last week.

Rayna Ceaser, Allison Leigh Nichols and Alejandro Rincon each received $2,500 scholarships for college and entry into their chosen career. Rotary Club President Steve Bozick made the presentation and each student spoke about their plans.

Ceaser plans to study nursing at Georgia State University in Atlanta or Southern University in Baton Rouge, La. She said she wants to work with impoverished populations, hopefully in a Spanish-speaking country. Ceaser has worked throughout her high school years and has volunteered for a number of organizations including the Pacific Science Center, where she donated well over 100 hours. Among other roles, she was a volunteer at the Union Gospel Mission shelter for homeless women and children, which she described as one of the most rewarding opportunities for community service.

Nichols will attend Gonzaga University in Spokane next year. She plans to study engineering and said after college, she hopes to design products that can “help enrich the lives of others.” Nichols is described by her teachers as a “patient, positive and very hardworking” student, who is conscientious about her work and study habits. Nichols has been involved in athletics at RHS, participating in cross country and track. During her time on the team, she received the “Most Inspirational” and the “Most Improved” awards. She was also voted captain of the cross country team.

Rincon will be attending Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill., where he plans to study industrial engineering. He transferred to RHS in his senior year and excelled in five Advanced Placement (AP) classes. Rincon is a swimmer and a member of the varsity tennis team. He is also part of the school’s National Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta, which focuses on math awareness, competitions and tutoring. Rincon has also studied piano for the past six years and is a member of the National Piano Playing Auditions. He has also volunteered outside of school, accumulating more than 260 hours of community service.

Rotary Club of Redmond provides students with annual scholarships to support either academic or technical training programs. The club also awards Student of the Month honors to RHS students.
