Redmond High’s Thomas earns scholarship at UW

Redmond High School (RHS) senior Nolan Thomas has received a full tuition scholarship for a year at the University of Washington (UW). Thomas also has earned a $2,500 “TC Work Hard Play Hard Scholarship” in memory of Troy Croshaw, who coached many years for the Redmond Parks Department, Redmond West Little League and the Redmond Select Baseball and Basketball programs. Croshaw passed away in December 2007 from kidney cancer.

The recipient of the Troy Croshaw Scholarship was designated to be a student that “has actively participated in RHS athletics while maintaining or exceeding academic standards … (and) exhibit(ed) an attitude of integrity, diligence and leadership in all endeavors.”

Thomas’ scholarship from UW is the Undergraduate School of Forestry recruitment scholarship. Within this school is the Environmental Sciences department.

Thomas has been one of eight students working with RHS Environmental Science teacher Mike Town in a year-long, independent study environmental research class. Their project is “Go GREEN” and they have partnered with the City of Redmond to promote carbon reduction. Thomas has been responsible for lunchroom composting at RHS this year.
