The Redmond Historical Society’s popular walking tours through the city’s historic core picked up some significant recognition this month: the society received the 2014 “Single Impact Award” from the Association of King County Historical Organizations (AKCHO) for making the tours into an annual event that shares local history while expanding the society’s reach.

“It certainly is special to be recognized by one’s peers,” said society President Chris Himes, noting that the first historic tours started in 1976 and then lapsed for many years until they were restarted by the society and historian Tom Hitzroth.

This year’s remaining downtown tours are set for: May 18, June 15 and Sept. 14. To reserve a spot, or for more information, visit redmondhistoricalsociety.org.

AKCHO is an umbrella group comprised of heritage organizations throughout King County. The 2014 AKCHO Awards Program is made possible with support from 4Culture and MOHAI.
