For the 12th consecutive year, the City of Redmond has been named a Tree City USA by the National Arbor Day Foundation.

Redmond received this national award in recognition of its commitment to its trees and urban and community forests. Criteria for the award includes having a caretaker for area trees, a tree care ordinance, a community forestry program and an Arbor Day observance and proclamation.

“We commend Redmond’s elected officials, volunteers and its citizens for providing vital care for its urban forest,” said John Rosenow, chief executive of the Arbor Day Foundation. “Trees provide numerous environmental, economic and health benefits to millions of people each day and we applaud communities that make planting and caring for trees a top priority.”

“The City of Redmond has enjoyed a long commitment to the care and preservation of trees through its Last Saturday planting efforts and other volunteer opportunities throughout the year,” added Teresa Kluver, Parks Operations Supervisor. “The recognition as a Tree City USA contributes to the city’s efforts to educate the public regarding the value our urban forests bring to Redmond.”

The Tree City USA program is sponsored by the National Arbor Day Foundation in cooperation with the National Association of State Foresters and the USDA Forest Service.
