Redmond police arrested a male and female for mail theft — 135 pieces of mail addressed to 51 different people — Jan. 20 on Education Hill.
At about 4 a.m., two residents called 911 to report suspicious activity near mailboxes around 10900 156th Place N.E. They saw a car at two different mailbox banks, with one person opening boxes and then getting back into the vehicle.
“They provided an excellent description of the behavior, vehicle and importantly, the direction in which the vehicle was headed,” a Redmond Police Department release reads.
Officers located the vehicle at 12400 Red-Wood Road and questioned a male driver and female passenger inside. The male had a warrant out of Bellevue. The female handed a bag to the officer with the stolen mail inside and said they had been “mailboxing” for 30 minutes before being pulled over. She also mentioned they lived in the vehicle.
“Officers were able to return most of the unopened mail. In talking to residents, they did find a few that heard and/or saw the suspects as well, but did not call 911. Please call 911 when you see something suspicious,” the release reads.
