Redmond Police Department to offer several free safety classes this spring

The Redmond Police Department is offering several free safety classes this spring.

These are not “self-defense” classes. However, they feature a proactive approach toward avoiding dangerous situations and suggest how to react in an unsafe situation.

• Women’s Personal Safety, appropriate for ages 17 and older, will be offered from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 28 at the Redmond Police Department Training Room, 8701 160th Ave. NE.

Topics will include how to prevent becoming the victim of assault or robbery; potentially dangerous situations and how to avoid them; how to handle “road rage” and prevent accidents; the pros and cons of weapons for personal security; and how to make a safety plan.

• Men’s Personal Safety, appropriate for ages 15 and older, will be held from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 28 at the Redmond Senior Center, 8703 160th Ave. NE.

Topics will include how to prevent becoming the victim of assault or robbery; potentially dangerous situations and how to avoid them; how to handle “road rage” and prevent accidents; the pros and cons of weapons for personal safety; and how to make a safety plan.

• Young Women’s Personal Safety, appropriate for ages 14-20, will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 6 at the Old Fire House Teen Center, 16510 NE 79th St.

Topics will include how to prevent becoming the victim of assault or robbery; potentially dangerous situations and how to avoid them; rape, sexual assault and dating safety tips; how to help friends in violent relationships and how to make a safety plan.
