Civil service commissioners are typically appointed to six-year terms.

The civil service commission is responsible for the hiring and promotional examinations for all regular status positions in the police and fire departments. Additionally, the commission acts as an appeal board for grievances.

Civil service meetings are held at 5:30 p.m. on the third Wednesday of every month. Occasionally, there may be a need for a special meeting, to be scheduled at the availability of the commissioners.

Interested residents, who have lived within Redmond city limits for a minimum of three years and are U.S. citizens should contact the mayor’s office at (425) 556-2101 or download a community service application form at www.redmond.gov/government/boardscommissions. Application can be sent to the Office of the Mayor, City of Redmond, P.O. Box 97010, Redmond, WA 98073-9710 or faxed to (425) 556-2110.

If available, applicants are asked to include a resume or summary of related experience. All board and commission members are volunteers.

Applications are preferred by Dec. 15. However, the position will remain open until filled. For more information, contact Lori Brown at (425) 556-2125 or lbrown@redmond.gov.
