Redmond students place at National History Day competition

On May 7, students from Lake Washington School District (LWSD) schools competed in the Washington State History Day Championship Competition, which was held at Bellevue College.

On May 7, students from Lake Washington School District (LWSD) schools competed in the Washington State History Day Championship Competition, which was held at Bellevue College.

The following are students from Redmond who participated and placed at the competition:

International Community School:

Senior Group Performance – ninth-grader Aishwarya Nirmal (with Rachel Roberts), first place; junior group website – eighth-grader Jason Lee (with Adarsh Mital), first place; senior group website – junior Jessica Jin (with Anastasiya Kirichuk), second place.

Redmond High School:

Senior group documentary – Seniors Tian Kisch, Raluca Ifrim, Anand Raghuraman and juniors Tara Balakrishnan and Maya Balakrishnan, first place.

Redmond Junior High School:

Senior individual documentary – ninth-grader Samhita Karnati, first place; junior paper – eighth-grader Jonathan Qu, second place; junior group documentary – eighth-graders Lynsey Liu and Hana Keller, second place; junior group exhibit – eighth-graders Kana Moriyama and teammate, second place.

The students who took first and second place in each category will move on to the national competition held at the University of Maryland, College Park, June 12-16.

For Redmond High, Tara and Maya will be representing their team in the senior group documentary competition, the three seniors on their team will graduate on June 15.

Additionally, Redmond Junior High was awarded the History Day School of the Year award. This award is given to the school (one for the junior division, one for the senior division) that has the highest number of entries in the top six placements.
