Redmond’s Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2995 will be distributing Memorial Day poppies at selected locations around the greater Redmond, Bellevue and Plateau areas today through Monday. The poppy drive raises donations for several veterans rehabilitation organizations as well as funding direct assistance programs for needy and disabled veterans and their families in the community. The poppy has been the symbol of recognition of the sacrifices made by military service members in the United States, Canada, Great Britain and France since World War I.

In addition, the VFW post, including its Honor Guard, will participate in Memorial Day services at Sunset Hills Cemetery in Bellevue at 10 a.m. on Monday. Following the services, the post, in conjunction with the three American Legion posts that share its facilities, will have a barbecue at noon at 4330 148th Ave. N.E. in Redmond.  Veterans of all military services are invited to join the celebration.
