A 54-year-old Redmond woman has been charged with assault in the first degree — domestic violence for reportedly stabbing her 66-year-old husband on the morning of April 28, according to King County Superior Court documents.

Defendant Christine Welker was charged on April 30 and is being held in King County Jail in Seattle on $500,000 bail. She is scheduled to be arraigned on May 13, according to a press secretary for the King County Prosecuting Attorney Office.

Redmond Police Department (RPD) Neighborhood Resource Officer Julie Beard said the victim has been released from Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where he and his wife were transported after the incident.

Police responded to the home in the 9600 block of 173rd Place Northeast at about 3:54 a.m. on April 28. According to the police report, the victim “woke up after being smacked in the head by a knife.” The victim added that he and his wife struggled to gain control of the knife and “she was determined to kill me and herself.”

While questioned in the hospital, the defendant said there was a struggle, but she couldn’t remember what happened, the police report states. When told she was under arrest, the defendant said, “I’m sorry.”

According to charging documents, another struggle ensued after the victim went downstairs and fell down. With a knife sticking out of his neck, the documents continue, he managed to flee the scene and make it across the street to a neighbor’s house to ask for help.

The neighbor told police that the victim had multiple stab wounds to his neck, documents state. Police arrived to find the victim lying in a pool of blood on his neighbor’s front porch with multiple stab wounds to his neck and back. Police found the knife underneath his back.

Across the street, the defendant barricaded herself in the house, according to documents. Police entered the house and found her in the bedroom with what appeared to be self-inflicted injuries to her wrist and throat, the documents continue.

According to RPD, there was no one else in the residence and there is a history of domestic violence between the two.
