Redmond’s Vlad Volynsky is headed to Boston — on his bike.

The 47-year-old Microsoft infrastructure specialist departed from Westport, Wash., on May 16 and aims to complete his estimated 3,448-mile journey by June 25.

According to his son, Eli, the cyclist’s goal is to raise $10,000 for awareness for heart disease in partnership with the American Heart Association. At press time, Vlad has raised $2,550 via his website www.vladvolynsky.com. People can donate there and check his progress at www.facebook.com/C2CVladVolynsky.

“Riding with heart. Be part of my solo coast-to-coast journey,” Vlad notes on his website.”The journey is dedicated to my late grandparents, whose will and spirit I celebrate with this special, truly solo journey.”

During Vlad’s journey, which will officially end in Revere, he will traverse 15 northern states with a total of 25 planned stages between 100-150 miles each. There will be more than 60,000 feet of accumulative elevation gain.

His ride is self-supported with nearly a year of advance planning.

Vlad said of his inspiration to tackle the fundraiser: “Today, 30 percent of global deaths are attributed to cardiovascular disease. We all know someone who faces it. The men closest to me — my grandfathers, uncles and my father — were among them. Nearly all men in my family experienced or survived cardiovascular challenges. This ride is a tribute to my family and to all people living with heart-related challenges.”
