Black Press of Victoria, British Columbia, the parent company of Sound Publishing Co. and the Redmond Reporter, has purchased four Washington newspapers this week.

Olympic View Publishing Co., which publishes the Sequim Gazette, the Forks Forum and other publications as well as The Peninsula Daily News and Sequim This Week of Horvitz Newspapers LLC have all joined Sound Publishing, the largest community newspaper group in the Pacific Northwest with 46 publications and a combined circulation of 732,700.

Terms of the sale were not disclosed.

The Horvitz Newspapers purchase includes the real estate and press. The Peninsula Daily News, whose publisher is John Brewer, has a circulation of 14,000 Monday through Friday and 16,000 on Sunday and has about 100 employees.

The purchase of the Sequim Gazette and the Forks Forum includes Olympic Peninsula Homes-Land magazine, based on the Olympic Peninsula; Islander Homes-Land magazine, with distribution on Island and San Juan counties; and associated websites. The Sequim Gazette, whose publisher is Sue Ellen Riesau, is published on Wednesday and has a circulation of 8,500. The Forks Forum is published on Thursday and has a circulation of 4,900. Olympic View Publishing owner Brown M. Maloney will continue to own the company’s real estate and ABC affiliate KONP, an AM/FM radio station in Port Angeles.

In addition to the Reporter papers, Sound Publishing newspapers include the Bainbridge Island Review, North Kitsap Herald, Bremerton Patriot, Central Kitsap Reporter, Vashon-Maury Island Beachcomber, The Islands’ Sounder, Whidbey News-Times, and Whidbey Crosswind.

The company’s corporate office is in Poulsbo.

Privately held Black Press, Ltd. owns about 150 publications, including three daily newspapers, the Akron (Ohio) Beacon Journal, the (Honolulu) Star Advertiser and the Advocate (Red Deer, Alberta). The other publications are in suburban or rural markets throughout the Canadian provinces of British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba.
