Under the direction of Redmond High School (RHS) office assistant and dance coach Judy Russo, the RHS Dance Team will be soaring to new heights.

“My background is in dance/drill so that is direction I am taking the team,” Russo explained. “I had a small group that started midseason during basketball last year, and this new group has a lot of potential and enthusiasm. We performed at our first halftime show last Friday and the girls wowed the crowd.”

The team currently has 14 girls and are led by four captains, juniors Shelby Hines-Elzinga and Bailey Jenks, along with upperclassmen Yutong Zhang and Kaitlin Puryear. Russo is currently holding fall auditions and hopes to add 8-10 more by the end of the season.

The girls will be marching in the Issaquah Salmon Days Parade on Oct. 1 with the Evergreen Junior High Marching Band, and will also be performing with the RHS Pep Band at a home football game on Oct. 7 as well as at every home basketball game during the season.
