Alex Vaschillo, a junior at Redmond High School, has been appointed to a two-year term on Redmond’s Innovative Housing Review Panel by the Mayor John Marchione.

Drawing on strong public support for encouraging diversity in housing choices in Redmond, the City Council adopted the Innovative Housing Demonstration Program in August 2005. In August 2008, the Council re-adopted and extended the program for an additional five years, until 2013.

The Innovative Housing Review Panel evaluates development proposals according to the goals of the Innovative Housing Ordinance, which include increasing variety of housing choices, demonstrating superb design compatible with surrounding single-family neighborhoods, improving housing affordability options, and contributing to a sense of community. After Review, the Panel decides whether to authorize the proposal to submit land-use permit applications.
