The Redmond Salary Commission recently approved a salary increase of $100 per month for city councilmembers.

The commission, comprised of seven Redmond residents appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the City Council, approved by a super majority a salary increase from $850 per month to $950 per month for councilmembers beginning Jan. 1, 2011. In addition, a $50 per month increase was approved to take effect Jan. 1, 2012, which at that time will bring the total compensation to $1,000 per month.

The commission also recommended the City Council convene with the Salary Commission bi-annually to ensure the review of Council salaries takes place on a regular basis.

In September, the City Council convened an independent salary commission to review and set salaries for city councilmembers in accordance with an established city ordinance. The commission began its work in early October and recently announced its findings.

The complete report from the Salary Commission is available on the City’s Web site at www.redmond.gov/insidecityhall/boards/salary.asp.
