Senior prom king and queen are crowned in Redmond

Redmond’s Overlake Terrace Assisted Living and Memory Care and Bellevue’s International School hosted their 17th annual senior prom on June 6.

During the event, young and old attendees alike danced to 1940s swing music played by the 20-piece high school jazz band. “These students have made a big difference in the lives of our residents. Their commitment, dedication and ability to bridge the age gap is truly heartwarming,” reads an Overlake press release.

Gordon (“Bud”) and Dorothy Milby were the prom king and queen. Dorothy, 90, was valedictorian at her high school and was swept off her feet when she met Gordon, 93, at a picnic in Indiana where they both worked. They were married in New York City 69 years ago and have three daughters, nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. One of Gordon’s interests has been his 1968 Ford Mustang, which he still owns today.

Many of Gordon and Dorothy’s family attended the prom-night festivities; the highlight of which was their coronation and subsequent dance to the band’s rendition of “Moonlight Serenade” — the song played at their wedding those many years ago.

The students made all the decorations, including the huge balloon arch in the dining room.
