Smells like team spirit: Local mascots help fight the flu

Local mascot celebrities are featured in a new, lighthearted video public service announcement (PSA) that cheers on local fans to prevent the flu with healthy actions and vaccine.

The 30-second PSA developed by Public Health – Seattle & King County features local mascots demonstrating their flu prevention spirit. Harry the Husky, the Ivar’s Dancing Clam, the Seahawks’ Blitz, the Storm’s Doppler, the Thunderbirds’ Cool Bird, and the Mariner Moose all demonstrate positive behaviors that prevent flu, stop its spread or help an infected person (or mascot) get better if they become ill.

“We’re using a funny campaign to draw attention to seasonal and H1N1 flu, but influenza is a serious disease. Every year, people lose valuable time from work and school because of the flu, and thousands are hospitalized or even die,” said Dr. David Fleming, Director and Health Officer for Public Health – Seattle & King County. “This campaign reminds all of us to do our part and prevent the spread of influenza, now and in the months ahead.”
