Last week’s snowy and icy road conditions could not stop the Redmond Senior Center’s outing to Tulalip Casino in Marysville.

Nine brave souls with an itch for slot machines met at the Redmond Senior Center (RSC) last Wednesday and make the trek north to the casino.

City officials originally planned to cancel the trip because of the icy road conditions, but a few seniors were adamant about going on a gambling adventure.

So the city changed the trip to a closer casino and did not cancel the popular event.

“The original trip was scheduled for Angel of the Winds in Arlington,” said Ken Wong, the City of Redmond Teen Programs and 50+ Administrator. “After some telephone calls to the registered participants to learn of interest, the decision was made that the trip was a go, but to a casino closer to the center.”

The driver, Janice Dunlap, had no problems navigating the seniors to the Snohomish County casino, Wong said. In fact, one participant, Martha Olson, called Dunlap “a wizard at driving.”

As for the gambling, Carol Rasmusen said, “we had sufficient time at the casino to lose our money.”

Wong said RSC offers many trips each week for very reduced costs and that the casino trip is always one of the more popular trips. The next casino trip is Feb. 2 to the Snoqualmie Casino.
