Speed “was definitely a factor” in the cause of a traffic accident that killed a 23-year-old Redmond man early Sunday morning after he crashed into a wooded ravine, according to Redmond police.

The King County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the man as Ever Ramirez, who died from injuries to the head and torso, according to death investigators, after his 2000 gray four-door Acura slammed into a tree. The Medical Examiner’s Office said the his death was “accidental.”

Ramirez, who was alone, was driving his car northbound on Bellevue-Redmond Road shortly after 3 a.m. on Sunday when nearby residents heard the crash near Northeast 40th Street and called 911.

There are no preliminary indications of drug or alcohol involvement and it appears the driver had been wearing his seatbelt and airbags were deployed, according to investigators.

Investigators from the Redmond Police Traffic Unit have not pinpointed the exact cause of the crash, but speed was a factor, according to Jim Bove, Redmond police spokesman.

“We are unable to determine the approximate speed at this point because there was no indication that braking occurred, but given the impact damage of the vehicle it is apparent that speed was definitely a factor,” Bove said.

Bove said the road was wet, but it was not raining at the time of the crash. Investigators will “have a clearer picture” of the cause of the crash when they get the results back from the autopsy report, which takes 4-6 weeks, Bove said.
