Summer parenting classes at Youth Eastside Services begin June 8

Youth Eastside Services (YES) is hosting its first Summer Parenting Classes, a series covering a variety of topics designed to improve family communication and increase harmony.

Youth Eastside Services (YES) is hosting its first Summer Parenting Classes, a series covering a variety of topics designed to improve family communication and increase harmony.

Here is a schedule of this summer’s classes:

  • “Parenting Through Separation or Divorce” will help parents improve communication and avoid common pitfalls of parenting during this difficult time. June 8, 5:30-6:30 p.m.
  • “Talking with Kids about Marijuana in the Age of Legalization” will cover drug trends, strategies for talking to kids and ways to ensure an alcohol and drug-free summer. June 27, 6:30-7:30 p.m.
  • “Chore Wars!” will provide pointers on building a cooperative household and reducing chore-related friction. July 24, 5:30-6:30 p.m.
  • “Transitioning to Middle or High School” will teach parents ways to support their child as they learn to navigate changing schools, changing bodies and the need to belong. August 18, 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. for parents of kids entering middle school; and 11 a.m. to noon for parents of kids entering high school.
  • “Positive Discipline” a four-part series designed to reduce power struggles, improve communication and teach parents the benefits of a kind-but-firm discipline strategy. There are multiple offerings and times for this class.

All classes take place at YES’ Bellevue offices at 999 164th Ave. N.E. in Crossroads Park. Cost is $10 per parent or parenting couple.
