Monday, Jan. 29

Shoplifting: Redmond police took a shoplifting report at 7:43 p.m. in the 2100 block of 148th Avenue Northeast. The loss-prevention specialist at a local department store called police after two unknown suspects were seen shoplifting. The employee saw the suspects cutting security devices off of purses with a wire cutter and attempting to leave the property with four bags. The employee confronted and grabbed for the items, managing to snatch three purses away from one of the suspects. The two fled on foot and the employee called police. A search of the area for the suspects was not fruitful and the investigation is ongoing.

Saturday, Jan. 27

Malicious mischief: Redmond police took a malicious-mischief report at 3:21 p.m. in the 17700 block of Northeast 90th Street. A woman called police to report her juvenile son was armed with a knife and destroying property inside her apartment. Officers arrived, interviewed the mother, son and other family and investigated the damaged rooms and property. The teenaged son was booked for malicious mischief.

Friday, Jan. 26

Theft: Redmond police took a theft report at 10:05 a.m. in the 7200 block of 164th Avenue Northeast. Police arrested a 32-year-old man for trespassing on a construction site and on suspicion of stealing copper wire and tools from the property. Construction crews alerted police after they spotted the suspect hiding in some bushes and in possession of property from the company. The workers told police they recognized the suspect from another burglary earlier in the week at a construction site in the 7200 block of 164th Avenue Northeast. The suspect was arrested and booked into jail.

Thursday, Jan. 25

Theft: Redmond police took a theft report at 8:19 a.m. in the 3000 block of 157th Place Northeast. Thousands of dollars’ worth of copper wiring was stolen from an HVAC machine near a Microsoft building by an unknown suspect. Investigators are looking into any security footage and other possible evidence.

Assault: Redmond police took an assault report at 5:56 a.m. in the 16500 block of Northeast 80th Street. Officers were called to investigate a reported assault between two men outside a local church. One of the men claimed the other had assaulted him, but after interviewing both parties and a witness, officers determined there was not probable cause for arrest.

Wednesday, Jan. 24

Trespassing: Redmond police took a criminal-trespassing report at 3:10 p.m. in the 15900 block of Northeast 85th Street. Police responded to a report of man violating his “no trespassing” order at the Redmond Library. The 57-year-old suspect has been repeatedly asked to leave for possessing open alcohol containers on library property and stated he had forgotten he had been trespassed a few weeks ago. Officers escorted him off the property without incident.

Tuesday, Jan. 23

Fraud: Redmond police took a fraud report at 10:26 a.m. in the 2900 block of 152nd Avenue Northeast. Detectives are investigating a report that more than $21,000 was embezzled by an employee at a local retirement home. A suspect has been identified but not yet charged.
