The Greater Redmond Transportation Management Association’s Tour de Redmond Summer Bicycle Commuter Challenge will be opened up this year to welcome all bicycle commuters who work in Redmond. The event will run July 8 through Aug. 31.

For the first time since its inception in 2006, the Tour de Redmond competition — which was created initially for members of the association for its employees — will welcome riders from any business or organization in Redmond to compete for trophies and cash prizes.

Tour de Redmond typically attracts 600-800 participants who work for member organizations.

“We realized that this event has made a difference in Redmond, and our members recognize that in order to make it the seminal event we had envisioned, it needed to be inclusive of the entire community,” said Linda Ballew, Greater Redmond Transportation Management Association’s executive director.

Tour de Redmond sponsors this year include Microsoft, RideAmigos Corp. and R-TRIP (Redmond Trip Resource and Incentive Program).
