Registration is open at www.TourdeRedmond.com for Tour de Redmond 2015, Redmond’s 10th annual summer bicycle commute challenge from June 1-July 31.

Sponsored by Greater Redmond Transportation Management Association (GRTMA), Microsoft and RideAmigos, bicycle commuters working at any Redmond-based business can register online as part of a team or as an individual to compete for medals, trophies and cash prizes. The goal this year is 1,000 riders.

This 10th annual Tour de Redmond makes it the longest-running privately sponsored bicycle commute challenge in the country. Anywhere from 500-800 commuters abandon driving to work each summer, don their helmets and colorful clothes and bike to work. This collective effort eliminates thousands of pounds of pollutants and frees up traffic on roads and freeways.

“The commuters who compete in Tour de Redmond are not all avid bicyclists. Many are riding their bicycles to work for the first time,” said GRTMA director, Linda Ballew. “Even if a rider can only manage one commute during the competition, he or she will receive a Tour de Redmond T-shirt.”
