Kirkland’s Lake Washington Physical Therapy pulled out an upset last week by knocking off continual favorite Hancock’s Bakery in Hopelink Can Madness, but the spoiler fell short of the final round this week and was ousted from the competition by another PT team: Redmond Physical Therapy.

In round five, Redmond Physical Therapy will square off against JJ Mahoney’s Pub in Redmond, who defeated Ben & Jerry’s Kirkland this week. The winner will be announced on Friday.

Although Redmond Physical Therapy has competed in the annual Hopelink food drive every year since the tournament began in 2010 and JJ Mahoney’s Pub has participated since 2011, this is the first time either team has made it to the final round.  During the fourth week of the competition, the four teams brought in a total of 3,015 pounds of food and $437, bringing the total in the tournament so far to 20,531 pounds and $2,893.

Hopelink Can Madness is a single-elimination competition similar to the national spring college basketball tournament, matching businesses in weekly contests to see which one can bring in the most food. Competitors and residents are invited to the announcement of the winner and trophy presentation from 4:30-5:30 p.m. on Friday at JJ Mahoney’s, 8932 161st Ave. N.E.
